On December 10, 2017, Formiga de Vellut became the first Catalan wine to be served at the Nobel Prize dinner in the entire history of the awards.

Formiga de Vellut 2014 was served during the Nobel Prize dinner, a fact that not only helps to reconfirm the quality of the wine but also to highlight the value of the wines of Priorat and in particular to organic and environmentally friendly wines.

Production: Each variety of organic grape is hand-selected. Each variety is fermented separately at 22º C for 7 days. Maceration takes place at 28º C and the paste is separated from the wine by gentle pressing of the grape skins. Finally, the single-variety wines are blended before being placed in barrels.

Aging: 8 months in French (80%) and American (20%) oak barrels.

Tasting Note: Formiga de Vellut is an intense, cherry red wine. It has a complex aroma, where red and black fruits stand out, combined with balsamic and spicy notes. On the palate it is a full and powerful wine, with a fleshy and velvety finish, where ripe and fresh tannins are present.

Pairing: Rice and pasta, poultry, white meat, red meat, game, sausages, cold cuts, meat stews, eggs, pâtés, foie, blue fish, aged cheeses, vegetables.
